At JEC World 2026, Alkivio presented the first-ever robotic cover of ankle and knee prostheses made with AlkiPaper®, a family of paper-based biocomposites that represent an innovative alternative to plastic.
The system was developed by the Rehab Technologies Lab of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia and INAIL. On the occasion of JEC 2026, researchers replaced the old plastic covers with new, optimized grades of AlkiPaper® biocomposites specifically designed for 3D printing, resulting in a prototype that combines advanced healthcare technology with environmental sustainability.
